இந்த இனிய புத்தாண்டு நாளை உல்லாசமாகவும் களிப்போடும்
கொண்டாட, மோகன ராகத்திலே ஒரு கச்சேரி ஆரம்பிப்போமா?

கச்சேரி என்றால், அதுவும் ஜனவரி மாத குளிரில் ஒரு கச்சேரி என்றால் சும்மாவா என்ன? மற்ற கச்சேரிகள் எல்லாமே ஒரு pattern ஆக
standardise ஆகியிருக்கும்போது, நம்ம கச்சேரி மட்டும் தனி. அது என்ன unique என்று கேட்கிறீகளா? இதுலே வர்ணம், கீர்த்தனை, ராகம், தானம் பல்லவி, அப்பறம் ஒரு தமிழ் பாட்டு, ஒரு பரத நாட்டியம், கடைசியில் ஒரு கடதரங்க் எல்லாமே மோகன ராகத்தில்தான்.

While Raaga is constant , different musicians who are the legend in the
Carnatic Music Field, present their best.

Let us start this new year 2008 with a great Musical Concert, dedicated to Raag Mohanam. We are presenting a plethora of immortal songs (vocals and instrumental as well as Bharath Natyam) set toRaag Mohanam. This Raag Belongs to 28th Mela kartha raag Harikhamboji.

Aroganam: Sa Ri2 Ga2 Pa Da2 Sa
Ava: Sa Da2 Pa Ga2 Ri2 Sa

Chathusruthi Rishabam Sadharana gandharam and Chathusruthi Daivatham
Form part of this raag.

Madurai Mani Iyer belonged to those Golden Era of Classical Carnatic Music. He mesmerized the audience by his Kalpana Swaras and his creativity in the realm of permutation and combination of swaras was astounding and had no national boundaries. ( In fact, even in 1950s he set tune for western music with his imaginative Swaras which kept even the western musicians spellbound)

This raag has just four swaras other than shadjam and panchamam. But the virat swarupa of this raag was made known by Dr.Bala Muralikrishna in his Sanskrit verse: “Narasimham Aagacha”
Both the alapana as well as the swara gamana exhibits the entire universe of this Raag.

“Meera” was the film which ran for years all over India. A very famous song Giridhara Gopala sung by Dr.M.S.Subbulakshmi, still rings in the memory of carnatic music lovers.

What flows now is a breath-taking in Ghata Tharang in Raag Mohanam. Not many are familiar with gata tharang. The jala tharang consists of cups filled with varied measures of water. But in ghata tharang, a similar situation is there, mudpots replacing china clay cups, as the thickness of the pots differs and these are placed according to the swaras.

Similar or Dissimilar?
Here follows a virtual demonstration on the similarity as well as
differences between two major Raghas Purvi Kalyani and Panthu Varalai.

Kedaram..The Raag of Kingly Might and Magnanimity.

KEDHARAM an ever green ragha with a touch of romance, passion, love, affection, care is at best described a ragha of matchless magnanimity tinged with graceful hospitality.

Theory reveals that this belongs to 29th Mela kartha Raag which is DHIRA SHANKARABARANAM .

The Aaroganam as well as Avarohanam Swaras are:

Aa: S M1 G3 M1 P N3 S
Av: S N3 P M1 G3 R2 S

Please note the meticulous absence of dhaivatam both in Aarohanam as well as in Avarohanam.

One can find plenty of compositions under this Kedharam but the most famous ones are:

A good number of Thevarams are tuned to this Kedharam being sung in the temples, by Odhuvars just before the rising of the Sun every day.

None can forget the beautiful bhavas exhibited by the actors Kamal and Urvashi while singing the Song SUNDARI NEEYUM. The raag is KEDHARAM.

However as I said that this raag can transport one from passion to Divine Love and Bhakthi. Use of this Raag in Bhajans and devotional songs are more common.

செஞ்சுருட்டி என்ற ராகத்தைக் கேட்டிருக்கிறீகளா?
அற்புதமான மனதை மயக்கும் ராகம் இது.
ஏதோ சுவர்க்கத்தின் இனிய வீணை நாதங்களுக்கிடையே
சற்று நேரம் நம்மை மறந்து இருப்பது போன்ற ஒரு பிரமை
இந்த ராகத்தினைக்கேட்கும் பொழுது தோன்றுகிறது.

28 வது மேள கர்த்தாவைச் சேர்ந்தது இந்த ராகம். Janya Raag is Hari Kambhojhi.
பற்பல பாடல்கள் க்ருதிகள் இருப்பினும், செஞ்சுருட்டி என்றாலே
கர்னாடக சங்கீத வித்வான்களுக்கும் ரசிகர் பெருமக்களுக்கும்
ஞாபகம் வருவது

அருணகிரி நாதர் பாடிய திருப்புகழ் தான்.
அதில் ஒர் பாசுரம் யாருமே மறக்க இயலாதது.
வீடு தோறும் பாடப்படுவது:
அது தான் " நாத விந்து களாதி நமோ நமோ.."

இந்த ராகத்தின் லக்ஷணங்களை விவரிக்குமுன்னே,
உன்னிகிருஷ்ணனின் மெய்மறக்கும் குரலில் இதோ அந்த பாட்டினைக்கேளுங்கள்.




Usually a very heavy meal is supposed to raise sugar levels in your blood stream and this is why most of us fall asleep immediately after a good lunch. Streams of music from Unnikrishnan Sir does the same magic.

Ragha Chenchuritti owes its origin to the 28th Mela kartha Ragha.

Did u listen to that song? Unnikrishnan is such a singer that whenever he sings, I tend to fall asleep, mesmerized in his melody. A heavy lunch shoots up the sugar levels in the blood stream of your body, and most of us tend to drowse after a heavy lunch. But once Mr.Unnikrishnan is on, you do not require such a lunch, as even without it, you go asleep. His melody, to say the least, is the Seventh Heaven of Joy and Bliss.

உன்னிகிருஷ்ணனின் இதமான குரல நம்மை எல்லாம் தூங்கவைத்துவிடும்.
கல்கண்டு சாதம், சேமியா பாயசம், ஆப்பிள் பச்சடி, பிஸி பேளா ஹூளி, பலாப்பழம், திராட்சை,வாழை, ஜிலேபி, பேல் பூரி பாலுடன்,
வெண்ணை கலந்த தயிர் சாதம் ஒன்றுமே வேண்டாம். உன்னிகிருஷ்ண்னை ஒரு தரம்
கேட்டாலே தூக்கம் வந்து விடும்.
இந்த ராகத்தில் இதே மெட்டுடன் அமைந்த ஒரு பாடல் ஜென்டில்மேனில் வருகிறது.
அதைக்கேட்காமல் இருக்கமுடியுமா?
